Our Chef at Smoke Shack Blues BBQ, Jonathan Levine, does not have the typical barbecue pedigree of most pitmasters; but his love of barbecue, deep respect for ingredient quality, and culinary techniques lend perfectly to barbecue culture. He was born to work a barbecue pit… It just took him a little time to realize his calling. SMOKE.
Chef Jonathan was at Guy Savoy at Caesars Palace Las Vegas, which was named, “the best restaurant in Las Vegas and one of the finest anywhere,” by Newsweek. It was a tremendous experience for Chef Levine who acquired a unique perspective and extensive knowledge of not only a restaurant opening, but the launch of one of the most refined culinary destinations under a world-renowned Michelin 3-Star Chef. He eventually moved on within the Caesar’s Palace family and became Head Chef Garde Manger. Following his time at Ceasar’s Palace he served as executive chef of The Buffet at Wynn Hotel, Las Vegas, the only luxury hotel and destination casino resort that received the Forbes Five-Star Award, AAA Five Diamond Award, and Michelin’s top honor of Five Red Pavilions. Under his leadership, The Buffet was declared, “Best Buffet in Las Vegas, 2010″ by Las Vegas Review Journal. Levine’s resume also notes stops at the Ritz Carlton, Smith and Wollensky, and the prestgious Park Avenue Cafe in New York City. As we told you, not your typical barbecue guy 🙂
Just prior to following his dream and opening his own restaurant (Smoke Shack Blues BBQ), Chef Levine was Executive Chef at Port Jefferson’s only Hotel , located in one of the most popular waterfront villages on Long Island. Jonathan fell in love with this port town, and decided it was a perfect venue for his BBQ theme. During Levine’s time at The water front hotel and Marina he received amazing reviews. Newsday’s Peter Gianotti rated his eatery “Excellent” or three stars and raved, “Levine’s cuisine makes you want to eat and eat again.” In 2011, Levine’s kitchen was listed in Newsday’s Top 10 Best New Restaurants on Long Island.
